Best Carpet Value (http://www.bestcarpetvalue.com), one of Dalton’s oldest mill-direct carpeting and tile stores announces a Call for Entries for their $500 Building Trades Scholarship (http://www.bestcarpetvalue.com/scholarship-content.aspx). Awarded to a student studying design, construction, carpentry, and extraction, applicants should submit a compelling essay on the practical use of residential carpet tiles and carpet tiles in a contemporary residential or commercial setting. The winning essay, chosen by a panel of BCV executives, will be awarded a check for $500 in July 2016 (extended from June) to be applied to tuition or books at a trade school or community college of choice during the fall 2016 semester. Applicants should be at least a part-time student studying interior design, carpentry, construction, flooring installation, roofing, HVAC, and related fields.
According to Best Carpet Value owner and CEO, Anthony West, excellence and innovation in the building and design industry lays the groundwork for a highly diverse career.
“The building trades are all problem solvers within your local communities and at Best Carpet Value, we want to help young people discover their talents and pursue rewarding careers as builders, roofers, flooring specialists, painters, and designers,” says West. “Building and design require a constant exchange of vocational and technical skills that when combined with a creative vision, bring elegance and prosperity to your community. Whether you are constructing a high-rise commercial office building, laying carpet and tile in a newly remodeled home, or coordinating everyday traffic patterns with an eclectic color scheme, the task is always challenging and unique.”
Essay entries must be postmarked by June 15, 2016 (extended from May) and include a 750-word (minimum) written essay explaining the student’s carpet and carpet tile recommendations for at least two rooms of a contemporary home or business, using products found on the BCV website. The essay should focus on why the student chose that particular type and color of carpet for each room based on traffic patterns and exposure; and how they would go about installing those choices in terms of the foundation type, resilience, and underlay required.
The winner will also be eligible for an internship with BCV and invited to apply for a full time position with the company upon graduation. Essays should be original (plagiarism of any kind will not be considered), concise, and factual in nature. One entry allowed per student, and all students are encouraged to apply.
