Is there a room in your home that could use a little more fun? Maybe a child’s room, a rec room, or even a good old-fashioned man-cave? You can quickly and easily make your playrooms more playful by covering your boring old floors with carpet tiles.
Carpet tiles are exactly what they sound like—smaller, individual pieces of carpet, usually squares, laid down in a pattern to create a floor covering. Most carpet tiles aren’t really affixed to the floor underneath. Instead, they have a non-slip backing or releasable adhesive that keeps them in place, which means that they can be easily removed, rearranged, and reused. If you move at some point, you can actually peel up some kinds of tiles and take them with you, which makes them a great choice for renters as well as homeowners. Because they’re so forgiving, carpet tiles can easily be installed as a DIY project, unlike regular wall-to-wall carpeting
Easy removal and replacement is one big reason why carpet tiles are such a great choice for both children’s rooms and man-caves! When the inevitable spills and messes happen, stained tiles that don’t come clean can simply be removed and replaced with fresh new tiles. The backing on most carpet tiles is water-repellent, so it can help protect the floors underneath too. Of course, this means it’s a good idea to buy a few extra squares when you first install your carpet, so you can make sure that you have exact matches available if you need them.
But the best reason for using carpet tiles in your playrooms, whether for kids or adults, is just how much fun they can be! Carpet tiles come in a wide variety of colors and prints, and even in some special shapes, and the only limit on the patterns you can create with them is your imagination. By using tiles with different pile heights or simply by giving some of the tiles a quarter-turn, you can add texture to those patterns too.
For rec rooms and children’s rooms, there are bright colors that can be mixed and matched as well as tiles with fun prints and designs, like stars, stripes, flowers, footprints, and cartoon faces. Printed tiles can be combined with solid ones to create a checkerboard pattern, or circular tiles can be used to cover a floor in polka-dots. If you really want to turn up the fun, there are even carpet tiles with fluorescent prints that glow under black-lights!
But you may be thinking that flower prints and polka-dots don’t sound quite right for your man-cave. Never fear! There are amazing design options that can bring the fun without harming your manly vibe. If football season is the most wonderful time of the year in your man-cave, then you’re really in luck. There are officially licensed carpet tiles available for at least thirty collegiate football teams (and yes, that does include both Alabama and Auburn), as well as licensed tiles for all thirty-two NFL teams. These tiles are generally laid out in a checkerboard pattern, alternating a solid team color with tiles printed with the logo of the team.
On the other hand, if you love roaring engines and squealing tires, then a checkered flag pattern might be the best addition to your man-cave. It’s easily created using alternating solid black and white carpet squares, laid out diagonally across the room.
Of course, if you prefer another sport like basketball or soccer, you can always create your own customized floor simply by buying carpet tiles in your team’s colors and arranging them in whatever pattern you like. With all the options for colors and prints available, it’s easy to find something suitable for every man-cave.
Decorating with carpet tiles is a great way to make children’s rooms, rec rooms, and man-caves more playful and inviting. Plus, they’re easy to clean and replace, so you can relax and enjoy the fun too!
